Nice Ride Expansion in Midtown

2011midtownnicerideproposed

Nice Ride just released their preliminary reports for Phase 2 expansion.  During the public comment phase they received 840 location requests, they narrowed it down to 140 recommendations.

These recommendations are based on a combination of factors, including the public input, land use characteristics, proximity to transit, and potential funding. Please note that these locations are preliminary. Actual installations will vary based on permitting, site specific considerations (including available space, lighting, and visibility), and funding. Locations in North Minneapolis will be adjusted based on recommendations generated through focus groups.

Midtown Phillips would get 2 new kiosks, creating a total of 4 for the neighborhood.  While Phillips as a whole would get 4 new ones for 9 total.  If these recommendations held Midtown would have kiosks available at:

24th & Chicago (proposed)
28th & Bloomington (proposed)
28th & Chicago (mid-block)
Midtown Global Market (west side)

In the attached picture red dots are proposed and blue dots were ones in 2010.

Overall their expansion would include kiosks near Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Lake Nokomis, Minnehaha Falls, one in the East Lake Target Plaza, one near Little Ceasers, up and down Grand, Marshall, and University in St Paul, and a lot in North and Northeast Minneapolis.

What do you think about their proposed locations in our neighborhood? This would put 4 kiosks within a half-mile for most residents (which is as close as the bus stop and quite a bit cheaper than the bus).
