Midtown Greenway Coalition Seeks A New Executive Director

The Midtown Greenway Coalition is looking for a new Executive Director. After 18 amazing years, Tim Springer is retiring: “I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work on the Greenway as part of a team with dedicated fellow staff, volunteers, elected officials, and public and private partners. I’m also very proud that we’ve created a new national model for community involvement with alternative transportation and city building." Passion for a great Greenway, outreach, and creative urban development are some of the primary qualities that we seek in a candidate. Submit your résumé and cover letter by March 11 to <email obscured>. The Midtown Greenway has become one of the most successful cycling and walking trails in the country. Located in south Minneapolis across diverse neighborhoods, connecting the Minneapolis Lakes with the Mississippi River, over 10,000 users a day enjoy this unique urban amenity in America’s number one bike city. There is still much to be done on the Greenway: keep the corridor beautiful and safe, encourage thoughtful urban development, seek alternative transit connections, reach out to the diverse constituencies, and promote cycling and health programs. A lot is happening on the Greenway. We continue our volunteer safety patrol. Four new real estate developments have commenced along the corridor. The idea of connecting the Hiawatha LRT with the Southwest LRT in the Kenilworth Corridor with a streetcar continues to inspire us. The 2011 Greenway Challenge bike-a-thon will raise funds and awareness for the Coalition. The new Executive Director will continue leading the invaluable advocacy work of the Coalition. Our recent struggle against Xcel Energy’s proposed high voltage power line project is a prime example. Council Member Gary Schiff recently awarded the Ninth Ward Project of the Year to us because we "provided a voice for all the neighborhoods along the Midtown Greenway affected by the proposed high voltage power line...The Midtown Greenway Coalition hit the ground organizing to prepare testimony...and to make their case at the hearings...Their hard work was rewarded when the administrative law judge ruled on the side of the neighborhoods and said the lines should be buried beneath 28th Street," rather than installed overhead on the Greenway. We have come a long way. The Greenway is now a national model for urban revitalization and community building. There is strong government support from the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, neighborhoods, and Midtown Community Works Partnership. So for anyone who loves the Greenway, community outreach, fundraising, and urban planning, you are encouraged to apply for the job. Please send your résumé and cover letter to us at <email obscured>. See our job description at http://www.midtowngreenway.org/documents/MGCEDJobDescription.pdf We are excited about the work ahead for the Coalition. We want not only a new Executive Director, but also more volunteers. So please join us. There is a lot more to be done. We need your help. See you on the Greenway!
